NV Mainegra Gran Suberviola Reserva Cava

Mainegra is based in the Basque town of Mendavia (in Navarra), just to the north-east of Rioja. This area is not part of the traditional Cava-producing region, which is cetnred-around Penedes in Catalunya. But such is the quailty of the wines sparkling wines produced here, that it has been recognised as a non-geographic Cava (part of the Cava DO, rather than DOC).

Made in the traditional Champagne-method, from 50% Viura (the Rioja name for Macabeo, which is one of the traditional Cava grapes in Penedes), 30% Parellada and 20% Chardonnay. Aged on lees for 30 months, and given less than 3g/l dosage after disgorgement.

Lovely richness of fruit, with ripe apple, melon, a little honeysuckle. Toasty and yeasty complexity, with a very fine mousse. Serious value
